The digital checklist for selling online in Spain
Seven things every company must get right before — and after — selling to Spanish customers online.
Written by the technical partner that fixes these for a living: no legal boilerplate, just what to
check and why it bites.
01
EAA / Ley 11/2023 — accessibility is law, not taste
Since June 2025, e-commerce, consumer apps and digital services in Spain must meet WCAG 2.2 AA (European Accessibility Act). Applies to foreign companies selling into Spain, not only Spanish ones.
Do this: Run an automated baseline (our free check covers it), then a human audit; publish an accessibility statement with a feedback channel. EAA compliance in Spain »
02
GDPR + AEPD — privacy with a Spanish accent
GDPR applies EU-wide, but enforcement in Spain runs through the AEPD, one of the most active regulators in Europe. Cookie banners without real consent and pre-ticked boxes are classic fines.
Do this: Cookie policy + real consent management (no tracking before consent), privacy policy naming the AEPD, and records if you process Spanish residents' data. Privacy review with us »
03
B2B e-invoicing is coming (Ley Crea y Crece)
Spain has passed the mandatory B2B e-invoicing law; its rollout is being finalized. If you invoice Spanish businesses, your systems must be able to issue and receive structured e-invoices through certified platforms.
Do this: Check your invoicing stack now; plan the integration before it becomes an urgent project. Prepare for e-invoicing »
04
Consumer law — the 14 days your checkout must respect
Spanish and EU consumer rules (RDL 1/2007) require clear pre-contract information and a 14-day right of withdrawal for online sales, with specific wording and timelines in the checkout and confirmation emails.
Do this: Review your checkout copy, withdrawal form and refund flow against Spanish requirements — templates translated from other markets rarely comply.
05
Spanish-language experience (and Galician where it counts)
Spanish customers expect native Spanish UX: legal pages, support, reviews. And in Galicia, co-official Galician adds trust — and in public-facing contexts, legal weight.
Do this: Localized UX copy (not machine-translated), localized legal pages, and a partner on the ground to keep it human. Spanish UX & consumer law »
06
Visibility: Spanish SEO & AI citability
Your customers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI in Spanish. If your site is not legible to those models — llms.txt, structured data, no JS-only content — you are invisible in the answers that replace the blue links.
Do this: Structured data, entity clarity, Spanish content architecture. Measure it: our citability check is free and bilingual. Run the citability check »
07
Speed & hosting on the ground
Latency from central-Europe or US hosting shows up in your Core Web Vitals and in conversion. Spanish users notice a slow checkout before they notice your brand.
Do this: Edge caching or EU/Spain hosting, image discipline, and a performance budget enforced per release. Speed & hosting services »
